Managing Partner for Welcome Change Media and keen content creator, Andy has always loved a good story. He soon progressed from spinning a yarn to pinning the stories racing around his imagination onto paper. His first novella, Gordon’s Apprentice is a window into some of the characters and places that inhabit his mind.

When he was about ten years old, Andy connected with his love of producing audio. He’d retreat to his room with  friends and make short radio plays with his trusty cassette recorder. This passion continued as he hit the narrowcast airwaves of his school radio station at Bonnyrigg High School (shout out to 2BR!) then later with his entrance into community radio to keep honing his skills.

He fuelled his interest further by taking drama classes with Leila Hayes at her Sydney based drama studio (this is where Willow Tree Manor was first conceived… but more on that another time). He studied media at the University of Canberra, majoring in radio and television production then ventured into the world for a good dose of life experience before landing his first commercial radio gig in Darwin.

After hosting Darwin’s most successful drive-time program in 2009-10, Andy switched gears and became General Manager of a successful community radio station in Adelaide. Andy has performed at the Adelaide Fringe Festival in a standup comedy act called The Petty Four, and as Ernest Hemingway in a local production called Mojito! He has drafted three novels, and will get to editing them one fine day.

Professionally, Andy’s career has also taken him places where he was able to sharpen his leadership and business writing skills. He worked for a while in Aged Care, where her really connected to the residents through their stories, which has always been the draw card for him.

When his former Content Director from Darwin, Louise, approached Andy with the simple question “do you want to make something with me?” it was a no-brainer for Andy. Here was an opportunity to make programs that offer a different perspective on everyday questions, using a story-telling technique to bring peoples’ stories together, or anything else he fancies. Willow Tree Manor is coming… we promise!

We all have a story to tell, and whether it’s fiction or the conversations he records and presents, Andy loves nothing more than collaborating on a good yarn. Have a listen to his latest yarns on That Entertainment Podcast and Elevating Experts!
